FOREST MULLE and his friends LAXE, FJELD FINA and NOVA

Where do they come from?

The four figures symbolize our nature and outdoor environments, the forest, the lakes, the mountains and the space. They are the children's friends in fantasy and in real life, in their various environments. FOREST MULLE ("SKOGSMULLE") was created more than 40 years ago in the beautiful nature at Lida Friluftsgård in the county of Botkyrka south of Stockholm. Up to this moment he is the most well known. The others have been created so that the children may experience all our different outdoor environments in an imaginative way..

What can we learn from them?

The figures message  to the children is:

FOREST MULLE is born in the forest

When the rain stopped a ray of the sun came and heated the moss. That was the moment when Forest Mulle was born.  (If you understand Swedish, you can read about this in the book  Skogsmulleboken.) The animals assisted each other in order to make his dress. The children gave Forest Mulle a pair of of peaked booths so as to make him comfortable in the forest. "HEY -TOODELOO!" Forest Mulle called out - " Here in the forest I'm happy all the time!

LAXE is born in the sea

Laxe was swimming in the sea. His friend, The Big  Salmon, was watching him. When they approached the coast the salmon put a big twig of seaweed on his head as protection. (This is described in the book "Laxeboken" (only in Swedish). From the children Laxe received a pair of  webbed foots so as to more easy be able to follow the great salmons upstream.  "BUBBELIÅÅ! BUBBELIÅÅ!"  Laxe happily called out, " Never throw the trash in the water!"

FJELD FINA is born  in the mountains

When the storm calmed down the strong mountain sun heated the scrub and the spot where Fjeld Fina was lying became warm. The mountain buzzard went up and cut out a large piece of the blue sky. That became a frock to Fjeld Fina. (Read more about this in the Swedish book  "Fjällfinaboken" ). From the samic children Fjeld Fina got a pair of peaked boots in order not to get cold feet. "HEY - VINDIVIIL!" Fjeld Fina called out so the sound echoed between the mountains. "Oh, how fun it is to be in the mountains" she continued singing.

NOVA is born on the fabulously clean planet Tella

"HELLO - KOSMOHOJ", she called out, did some slalom turns on the beams of the sun and landed just in front of Fjeld Fina. (This is described in the Swedish book "NOVA , the friend of Forest Mulle from the outer space". The book about Nova is a fairy-tale which wants the readers to grasp our global situation. Hopefully it will motivate them to accelerate tidying up the entire planet Tellus).

It is not only for fun -
every Mulle kid knows
that on our planet
one works both day and night
to make the air, the earth and the water more clean".

att på vår planet
man gnor hela dagen och natten
för renare luft, mark och vatten".

Thanks to Nova caring for the Mulle grove has been extended to caring for the entire planet Tellus.

OUTLOOKS at the threshold of the 21st century
With all the enthusiastic leaders in the Swedish Association for Outdoor Life, Friluftsfrämjandet, it is possible that the FOREST MULLE groups, is Sweden as well as in other countries and with cooperation from other organizations, will become a worldwide movement of environment education that is needed in order to preserve our nature. Then OUTDOOR LIFE can become a WAY OF LIFE for EVERYBODY.
