Forest Mulle in Sweden 
Children
activities in the Association for Promotion of Outdoor Life
The association started with Forest Mulle groups in 1957. Today (2007)more than
two million children have participated. In the sixties most
children were at home with their mothers, kindergartens were scarce. Most
Forest Mulle leaders were housewives. Today the situation is quite different.
Forest Mulle groups are now an integrated part of the kindergarten activity.
The smallest children, under five years of age, can join the "Skogsknytte"
groups. In the middle of the 80's special kindergartens "with a Forest
Mulle flavor" were introduced, "Through thick and thin" (Swedish:
"I Ur och Skur").
The names of the pioneers were Siw Linde and Susanne
Drougge from the kindergarten Mulleborg on the island of Lidingoe,
just outside of Stockholm. Today (2007) there are two hundred "I Ur och
Skur kindergartens.
"The
country of Mulle" in Sollefteaa, Sweden
The local Friluftsfraemjandet group in Sollefteaa has together with Goesta
Frohm created "The country of Mulle" in Sollefteaa. In the Mulle
country the children learn how wonderful it is to be out in the nature.
Built here are the hovel of Forest Mulle, the hut of Laxe and the cone-shaped
hut of Fjeld Fina.
Other Mulle countries
On Lida friluftsgård, just outside of Stockholm, one
has started activities with "Forest Mulle and his friends at Lida". Lida
and the forests aroud it are the birth place for Forest Mulle. Now, areas
for Forest Mulle and his friends Fjeld Fina, Laxe and Nova are created.
